PICKERINGTON OHIO HISTORY
Pickerington’s first settlers arrived in 1808 and it was in 1815 that Abraham Pickering laid out the plat of Old Pickerington. It was not until 1965 that Pickerington experienced real change and prosperity. Today’s Pickerington is a Columbus suburb and a gateway to open spaces to the east and southeast.
As a result of reaching a population over 5,000, Pickerington was given the status of city in 1991. The State of Ohio named Pickerington the “Violet Capital of Ohio,” due to the efforts of Jill Ann Sparks and Karen Wingler. Since the first settlers came in 1808, Pickerington has been known for its abundance of wild violets.
